Since it’s inception in 1995, the department which includes rural sociology and agricultural extention branches has been providing academic and technical training in the field of rural development to students from Egypt and other Arab countries. In addition, the department has always provided consulations and technical assistants in different aspects of rural development field to local, national, regional and international organizations such as Minstry of Agriculture, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Community development, NGO’s Academy of scientific research, FAO and Arab Organization for Agriculture Development. Also, the department staff members have been working closely in multdisciplinary teams with other academic departments in order to help tackle some of the problems facing the rural sector. The department is equipped with computer laboratory, library and modern communication facilities. The research interests of the faculty members cover a wide range of subjects including rural community development, rural organizations, population studies, leadership, rural women, and agriculture extention. The department offers undergraduate studies as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D. Furthermore, the department has established a specialized unit known as the Rural Community Development Center, the center conducts studies, offers consulations and conducts workshops and training programs.
